Frequently asked questions on Colonic Hydotherapy/ irrigation at COLONIX.
We will begin your appointment by taking a full medical history, which is confidential, followed by an explanation of the procedure. The colonic itself will take 30-40 minutes depending on the integrity of the bowel. As your therapist I will be continuing the assessment through-out your treatment. I will gently introduce a low pressure of warm, filtered water into the colon via a speculum inserted gently into the rectum (all speculum's are disposable, thus preventing the risk of cross contamination).
I use special massage techniques on the abdomen to stimulate the release of stored, toxic waste matter. This movement stimulates the bowel and moves out the waste matter, gas and mucous through an outlet tube, which is evacuated out to a waste pipe. The average colon may contain between 1-7 kgs of debris. It takes years for the colon to become clogged up with its own waste products. When the treatment is completed, I will ask you to visit the toilet, where being in your more natural 'comfort zone', you will be able to release any further waste and excess water.
While you relax, we will discuss the findings of the treatment and your aftercare. The benefits of Colonic Hydrotherapy can quickly be observed in the form of feeling lighter, improved bowel function together with clearer skin, more energy, more mental clarity and fewer headaches. Circulatory, immune, inflamatory and weight problems can also often improve with colonic treatments when accompanied by recommended diet and lifestyle changes.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS IT PAINFULL OR EMBARRASSING?
NO, it is not painful, most of my clients actually enjoy the colonic and are especially pleased with the unaccustomed sensation of feeling lighter, clean and clear afterwards. Sometimes during a colonic, the colon muscles will contract suddenly expelling considerable amounts of water and waste into the rectum. This may feel like cramping or gas, and may create a feeling of urgency to empty the rectum. Such episodes, if they occur, are brief and easily tolerated.
No, it is not embarrassing, you will fully maintain your personal dignity After the gentle insertion of a small tube into the rectum, you are completely covered by a towel.
DO I NEED TO DO ANY PREPARATION BEFORE OR AFTER A COLONIC?
I normally suggest drinking extra water for a few days before your treatment to hydrate the body and the bowel, and try to avoid any gassy forming foods. It is best not to eat for at least one hour before your treatment, as I will be doing some tummy massage and this may upset the digestive process. After your colonic treatment, I suggest eating anything that feels gentle and nourishing to you. Just as it doesn't make sense to have your car cleaned and then drive it through a muddy puddle, I find most people feel so well after a treatment, that they don't want to spoil this feeling and are naturally drawn to healthier foods, such as steamed vegetables, salads and soups.
IS IT SAFE TO HAVE COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY?
YES, when administered by an ARCH registered therapist, it is both safe and beneficial. All equipment is either disposable or sterilised, using hospital grade sterilisation techniques, which kill off all prevalent bacteria, viruses and fungi. By removing old encrusted faecal matter and mucoid plaque, (which are food sources for unfriendly bacteria in the bowel) colonics actually enhance the spread of friendly bacteria in the bowel. Colonics are not habit forming, unlike some chemical laxatives, and do not lead to a 'lazy' atonic bowel, but infact help improve bowel muscle tone and normalise it's size and capacity.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR A COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY TREATMENT?
From the waist up you will remain fully clothed, so wear something that is comfortable and loose, as I will need to examine and massage the tummy. You will only have to remove clothing from the waist down, where you will have a clean towel wrapped around you to preserve your modesty at all times.
CAN I DRIVE AFTER A COLONIC TREATMENT?
YES, I will ensure you have enough time for your bowel to settle after a treatment, 5-10 minutes is usually plenty of time and this will happen naturally while I explain the findings of your treatment and any aftercare recommendations
CAN I HAVE A COLONIC IF I AM ON MY PERIOD?
YES, you can still have a colonic treatment if your are on your period.
